Where we are making a difference

Founded in 2007, we are a zero overhead organization where 100% of funds raised directly benefit the cause.

We partner with community-based organizations in Africa to open local bike shops and have shipped more than 20,000 bikes.

We enhance rural communities by providing healthcare workers, teachers, farmers, and students access to bikes.

We create a sustainable ecosystem through employment at the community bike shop.

Profits of the bike shop are then used to fund local aid organizations and schools.

Namibia

Working closely with Bicycling Empowerment Network Namibia (BEN Namibia), Bicycles for HumanityColorado has opened three Bicycle Empowerment Centers (BEC’s) in northern Namibia.

The small communities of Nkurenkuru, Singalamwe and Bunya have all opened bike shops using donated bikes. These bike shops provide much needed jobs for several members of each community and help to solve the basic problem of transportation.

In addition, a portion of the bikes in each community are donated to local healthcare workers who use the bikes to visit patients in the surrounding areas — many who are suffering from HIV/AIDS.

As the bike shops have grown, the profits from the sale of bikes have gone back into the community. In the village of Nkurenkuru, the sale of bikes led to the building of a kindergarten for children in the surrounding area.

Every Orphan’s Hope is a fantastic organization that takes a different approach to helping the thousands of orphans left behind by the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Every Orphan’s Hope pairs eight children with one widow in new homes called “My Father’s House”.  Together, this new family prepares children to navigate the school-to-work transition by mentoring them in the life skills they need to become self-sufficient adults

The project in Chongwe added a bike shop to a compound that house’s several Family Homes.  The bike shop provides training and employment opportunities for the older children transitioning to adulthood and eventually to families of their own.

Bicycles for Humanity Colorado has partnered with Seeds of Hope International Partnerships (SOHIP) to open a bike shop in Ndola, Zambia. SOHIP is a great organization that works on a holistic approach to development that starts with bringing clean drinking water to communities in Zambia. Once clean water is in place, agriculture, healthcare, jobs and transportation can be addressed. The project in Ndola is Bicycles for Humanity Colorado’s first project in an urban area, and so far it has been a great success. Urban or rural, bikes are providing jobs and transportation as part of an overall approach to development.
